The Voices in My Head

The Voices in My Head
it's nice to share

Two years ago I had the pleasure of meeting the CEO of GiANT Worldwide, Jeremie Kubicek.

Our first meeting was a phone call while I sat down to breakfast. During the phone call, we discussed my job, career goals, etc. Jeremie challenged my thinking and asked questions that I still haven’t answered to this day.

We kept in touch via email off-and-on.

Spring ahead to March of this year when Jeremie, along with GiANT Worldwide co-founder, Steve Cockram released their newest book – 5 Voices: How to Communicate Effectively with Everyone You Lead. I was interested in some personal coaching after completing the assessment I took in February. So in an act of sheer selflessness, Jeremie offered to coach me personally, if I bought a bundle of 10 books.

The bundle of 10 books cost me just over $300. I’m not sure what Jeremie’s time is usually worth, but I’m sure it is more than that.

The book was an easy read, and helped to take the confusion surrounding the 16 myers-briggs personality types, and condense them into five different voices.

My voice order is Nurturer, Creative, Guardian, Pioneer, Connector.

What was more enlightening after learning my voice order was that I have been in the wrong career since I started working. This came out during my coaching session. In GiANT speak, I have been using my left hand (as a right handed individual) most of the time, and in doing so, my right hand has begun to atrophy.

I don’t know if you have ever experienced this in real life, but having broken my left wrist twice, and requiring a cast for an extended period of time, I have seen my arm become skinny and sickly looking. This is a perfect metaphor for how my personality had become. I had operated outside of my nature for so long, that I literally forgot who I was.

Thankfully, Jeremie was able to give to a roadmap and some strategies to get back on track.

  • First and foremost,┬ápray actively for the 5-7 people who I can’t stand. This is based on the biblical principle found in Romans 12:14, “Bless those who persecute you.” Jeremie encouraged me to be a champion for these people.
  • Secondly, ask the Holy Spirit to heal what happened in the past. This step in concert with with the first action item will allow me to take the victim out. These are key steps in raising up my nurturer voice and becoming a champion for people.
  • The third action is to change things up. Whether by re-arranging my desk, changing my wardrobe, even changing my route to work. These changes show others that I am making visible changes to my life while at the same time giving myself visual cues that things are changing.
  • Finally, renew my mind. Jeremie reminded me of the importance to get back into the Word and to learn to trade up. The only real homework Jeremie gave me was to listen to Graham Cooke’s series titled “The Art of Thinking Brilliantly.”

It has been about a month since I had the call with Jeremie and I have to say that all of these things have helped. I am able to operate more within my nature and it has helped me alleviate some of the stress. There are times that things slowly creep in, but I am quicker to notice what is going on and get back on track.

So now it’s your turn…
